British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) define counselling and psychotherapy as: ‘umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies. They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or long term to help them bring about effective change or enhance their wellbeing.’ For more information about counselling from the BACP click here.
In counselling and psychotherapy people come to work through their concerns with such things as:
As a Relational Integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, Christian is concerned with how people relate to each other and the world around them. Relational Integrative Therapy combines the compatible elements of a number of therapies to provide a wider scope of support. The foundation of Christian’s Integrative approach is Person-Centred Therapy. This way of working requires the therapist to be open-minded and to offer an empathic space in which to explore sensitive and private matters in a non-judgemental manner. Christian adapts his style of working to the needs of the individual and commits to providing an environment that is valuing and supportive. Together, you and Christian would explore your experiences and feelings, concentrating on what you consider most important. Sometimes this may involve discussing childhood experiences and how they may influence your conscious and unconscious thought's or feelings. To support this way of working, Christian leans on elements of Psychodynamic Therapy. However, Integrative therapy is designed to have a flexible approach which enables the counsellor to closely follow your unique way of experiencing the world, adapt to your personal way of being and the different types of issues you might bring to counselling. Working closely along side you, Christian's aim would be to help you make sense of your issues and/or to explore ways of approaching them in a potentially different way to enable you to either find solutions to problems or new perspectives on life. He also focuses on empowering you to identify and build upon your existing strengths or develop new strengths to help you work through your current and future challenges. Integrative therapy makes use of Mindfulness CBT which has the potential to promote greater awareness and control of your thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Christian offers short term counselling in Newport or longer term psychotherapy. He is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adheres to their code of ethics and complaints procedure.
Christian has received training in online counselling and can provide support via live text based or webcam facility. The online platform he works on has been confirmed as having all the necessary security and encryption features to ensure the communication remains secure and confidential.
